Update: Unanimous Approval for Parkway Extension Study

The Milwaukee County Board’s Transportation, Public Works and Transit Committee unanimously passed a resolution on Wednesday calling for a formal study of the Lake Parkway south to Ryan Road or beyond.

South Milwaukee Mayor Tom Zepecki and South Milwaukee Chamber of Commerce President Bryan Lorentzen were among those who spoke in favor of the proposal at the committee meeting. I also strongly support the idea.

I’ll keep you posted on this issue as it moves forward.

I’d have to agree with the previous post by SM Guy. Let’s figure out the future of Hoan first. The “parkway” itself is a bit schizophrenic. It’s called a parkway, but built as a tunnel with the noise barriers everywhere. You can’t seen anything, just like a freeway. (You have a great view from the Hoan, but what happens if it becomes surface streets and the neighbors start whining). However, they have a ridiculously low speed limit and stoplights (Oklahoma or there about). Hitting that during the morning rush slows traffic even more. And the slow traffic isn’t caused by volume like on other freeways. It’s solely due to the speed limits and the lights. Can anybody promise us that surface street in either direction will not have these artificial bottlenecks added either now or after the first accident occurs?
