“Stupid” 4th District Shooting? It’s Also Scary

Jim Stingl had a somewhat light-hearted column in today’s Journal Sentinel about a South Milwaukee man who allegedly had himself shot by a friend … all in the name of love.

This bizarre story would be laugable if the shooting hadn’t happened right in the heart of the 4th District — on Beech Street and the Oak Creek Parkway. In that way, it’s a bit scary (and a good argument for stiffer gun control, but that’s another blog post, another day).

Anyway, check out the story here. And don’t try this at home.

If you think more gun control would solve incidents like this you are wrong. Guns do not shoot people, people do. You can’t fix stupidity.

Trying to figure out how this particular incident is an argument in any way for stiffer gun control laws. The “shooter” does not appear to have been a felon. The tried to obtain a (illegal?) weapon, but couldn’t. The gun was the “shooter’s” or at least belonged to someone in his residence. All the article said was that it was a rifle, so it could have been a simple hunting rifle. So unless you ban all guns in a state with an extremely active hunting sport, I can’t quite see how this is an argument for any type of gun legislation (except perhaps a stupidity test?).
