I Like It! South Milwaukee On Facebook

South Milwaukee is officially on Facebook.

If you haven’t already done so, be sure to “like” the city’s page here … and check out the live feed on the city’s website.

A big thanks to City Clerk Jim Shelenske for making this happen. This is another tool we can use to keep residents informed on South Milwaukee news and information.

We need better minutes of council meetings (and other meetings)…and video would be nice. Reading some other city’s minutes…they are so detailed to the point of giving the names of citizens who speak and the issues they bring to the council. That is the way it should be so we all can be aware of problems other citizens are having. Also…Police and Fire Commission minutes could not be less informative. South Milwaukee needs to work towards complete transparency. mwalsh9899@yahoo.com

    • I will pass this along to the clerk’s office, as they handle the production of minutes. That said, I stand by the transparency of our local government — and the strides we’re making to make things even more transparent, be it through social media or any number of other things we’ve done in the last few years. I would also like to see us look at video, perhaps some sort of free local access channel. That would be another step towards an even more open government.

Okay…I just took a look at the SM FB page. There is no place for citizens to leave comments. Why is that? Citizens should be able to have a forum on these kind of sites…otherwise…this is no different than the city website and why waste taxpayers’ money on maintaining it?? I sure wish SM was more open to citizens’ opinions/comments.

I think each SM alderperson should have a FB page like Bob Donovan. I’m not a huge fan of his (politically) but he certainly does allow his constituents to be heard. The good, bad, and ugly.

    • I agree, and I know a couple of us in South Milwaukee, at least, have one already.

Really? Care to share them with us?

Again…if there are some aldermen with FB pages for their constituents to leave comments and concerns on can you please share them with us? They don’t do any good if no one knows about them. Thanks. (Just so you know…I’m not talking about personal FB pages)

  4. I don’t know of any South Milwaukee aldermen that have Facebook pages for constituents. They are personal pages (including mine). I am OK with that, and I have no plans to add an aldermanic Facebook page. If I was a full-time politician like Ald. Donovan, I’d probably do one (and use my staff to help keep it updated). Part-time politicians don’t have that luxury. We do our best.

  5. I guess I didn’t realize Donovan’s was a “work-only” Facebook page.
