South Milwaukee Man Charged In July Burglaries

I promised an update on the series of mid-July burglaries in South Milwaukee – primarily the Fourth District – and here it is …

On Aug. 3, a 36-year-old South Milwaukee man was charged with four counts of burglary and one of criminal damage to property for the following break-ins and burglaries:

  • July 12: 100 block of Brookdale Drive;
  • July 14: 500 block of Parkway Drive; and
  • July 19: 700 block of 17th Avenue, 1700 block of Maple Street and 200 block of 14th Avenue.

The man confessed to South Milwaukee officers, police said. He was also charged with two other counts of burglary that allegedly occurred in other jurisdictions within our county. He may have other cases pending outside the county, police said.

All of these incidents were committed during the day. So police are encouraging people to be alert for suspicious people not only at night, but also during daylight hours. If you see strange people at a neighbor’s house during the day, please call police.

Thanks to South Milwaukee Police Lt. Cary Fischer for the update.

Update: Search For South Milwaukee Sexual Assault Suspect Continues

South Milwaukee Police have told me that the man arrested following an alleged sexual assault in Milwaukee is not the same man they’re seeking in connection with two local incidents in July.

In other words, and as always, stay vigilant and continue to watch for the man pictured here.

I’ll keep you posted.

Arrest Reportedly Made In Milwaukee Sexual Assault; Connection To South Milwaukee Cases?

Update: Here is the MPD press release.

A man has been arrested in Milwaukee following an alleged sexual assault at a South Side bus stop on July 27.

Here is the Journal Sentinel story. From it:

Police are trying to determine whether Anthony H. Kodrich is linked to seven other similar assaults in Milwaukee, South Milwaukee and Shorewood.

Kodrich was charged Sunday with second-degree sexual assault in connection with the 5:30 p.m. July 27 incident.

Police said after the woman was attacked she later saw news reports about similar incidents in Bay View and South Milwaukee and reported the attack on her to police.

You’ll recall that sexual assaults were reported in South Milwaukee — within eight blocks of each other — on July 3 and July 27 (the same day as the Milwaukee case).

I’ll keep you posted when I learn more.

Reports: Oak Creek Sikh Temple Shooter Recently Lived In South Milwaukee

Update: Fox 6 also spoke with South Milwaukee neighbors, and WhitePages.com lists a Wade Page as living in the 700 block of Minnesota Avenue.

Wade Michael Page, the man suspected in Sunday’s shooting rampage at the Oak Creek Sikh Temple, lived for a time in South Milwaukee — before he moved to Cudahy.

Here is the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel story. From it:

Before moving to the Cudahy address, Page lived for a time earlier this year in a South Milwaukee.

David Brown, 62, a neighbor who lived in the same South Milwaukee apartment building earlier this year, said Page was a recluse. He was “not a friendly guy,” he said. “You’d have more fun with a camel.”

“He was very quiet. You’d say hi and he’d kind of ‘uh.’ It was like he didn’t care if you were talking or not.”

Brown saw Page driving a plain white delivery truck several times. Page lived in apartment No. 5 with his girlfriend, Misty, who was going to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and who has an autistic son, and whose father helped out with child care and car maintenance.

Page liked to play music at odd hours of the night and work out in the basement with free weights.

Brown saw him there when he went to do laundry. “I never saw him carry a gun,” said Brown, a former navy officer who is retired from working in aviation electronics.

Page and his girlfriend moved out about four or five months ago.

“He didn’t seem mean. It was kind of like he was angry at the world. But I’m not a psychiatrist,” Brown said.

Did you know Page? Post your comments below.

South Milwaukee Connection To Tragic Colorado Movie Shootings

The aunt of one of the victims of the movie theater massacre in Colorado lives in South Milwaukee.

WISN has the story here. From it:

Jenny Zakovich said at first, the family of Micayla Medek knew only that she had been at the midnight showing of “The Dark Knight Rises” with friends, and that she was missing. But police confirmed late Friday afternoon that she was among the dead.

“The hardest part is she laid on that floor for 20 hours without my brother knowing where his baby was,” Zakovich said. “He’s going through so much torment right now. It’s terrible. You can’t explain what it’s like not knowing — and sitting and waiting”

Medek’s aunt and father grew up in South Milwaukee. Her father moved away years ago to take a job in Colorado, and that’s where Medek and her sister and brother grew up.

“She had a lot of friends,” Zakovich said. “She liked to have fun. All around, a great kid.”

Please keep the family and friends of Micayla Medek — and all the victims of this senseless tragedy — in your thoughts and prayers.
