A Great Economic Development Idea in Cudahy and Other Local Headlines

Selling a home in this market, and in this economy, isn’t easy. A bit of creativity certainly can’t hurt.

So it is in Cudahy, which is holding a citywide open house later this month in an attempt to get people through the front door of for-sale homes … perhaps people who would have never otherwise considered moving to the South Shore.

10-Year Sentence for South Milwaukee Stabbing Death and Other Headlines

The man convicted of stabbing a man to death in downtown South Milwaukee in April has received a 10-year prison sentence.

Joshua Wollinger’s sentence, which also includes six years of extended supervision, was handed down Wednesday. He pleaded guilty in July to stabbing Richard Ostrowski in an apartment at 1011 Milwaukee Ave.

Supervisor Jursik is “Bullish on the South Shore”

That’s the lead story in Milwaukee County Supervisor Pat Jursik’s monthly Enews. She writes:

Two South Shore Industrial Fires and Other Headlines of Local Interest

Update: As if Tuesday wasn’t busy enough, there was a house fire in Cudahy Wednesday morning. Read more here.

It was a busy day for local firefighters … which is particularly bad news given the oppressive heat and humidity

First, there was a fire at DIC Imaging Products USA off of Rawson Avenue in Oak Creek. Read a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel story here. Then, later Tuesday night, there was a small fire reported at Ladish in Cudahy.

Thankfully, no one, including firefighters, were hurt in either fire.

Bucyrus Equipment Order One Step Closer to Reality and Other Headlines

As expected, the Export-Import Bank voted Thursday to reverse course and approve loan guarantees for an Indian company looking to purchase $400 million of equipment from Bucyrus International.

The decision is expected to save hundreds of jobs in the area that were in jeopardy after the bank originally voted against the guarantees.

“Rocket John”Memorial Set for August 27 and Other Headlines of Note …

The South Milwaukee School District has scheduled a memorial on August 27 for “Rocket John” Bogadi, who passed away earlier this month.

The event for the South Milwaukee superfan will take place before South Milwaukee’s season-opening football game against New Berlin West. Festivities start with a tribute video being shown at 5 p.m. at the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center.
