Putting South Milwaukee on the Broadband Map

The Journal Sentinel is reporting that Wisconsin’s Public Service Commission will receive a $1.7 million grant to map existing broadband Internet access and plan more. You can see the story here.

I think I know what the map will show for 1713 Cedar Street — a dead zone.

I’ve tried on numerous occasions over the years to obtain DSL service at my home, and I’ve been told it’s not available in our neighborhood. (I’ve had to pay too much for Roadrunner service instead.)

I’m wondering if anyone in the 4th District — or City of South Milwaukee, for that matter — has had similar issues. If so, please post a comment below.

I hope I’m the exception, not the rule, and that the information superhighway flows freely through our city.

(I am not in your district but) same issue here at 5th and Oak. Keep getting direct mail pieces saying switch to DSL but when I call I get “sorry you are too far away”.

  2. That’s exactly what I get, too. We actually had the DSL hardware set up on our computer a couple years ago before they realized we were “too far away.” It’s amazing this happens in an urban area like South Milwaukee. You’d think coverage would be 100%.
