South Milwaukee Schools Open on Thursday

South Milwaukee School District classes are on for Thursday, according to the district.

Milwaukee, however, has cancelled classes, as has Cudahy “due to cleanup efforts,” according to the Cudahy School District website. St. Francis schools are also closed on Thursday “due to inclement weather and cleanup,” according to that district’s website.

Do you agree with the South Milwaukee School District’s decision? Post your comments below.

i strongly disagree with south milwaukees decision to not close school for thursday. we live in cudahy but our son goes to south milwaukee. we still have 4 ft of snow throughout our back parking lot. this storm was out of the ordinary and has affected many people in many different ways. it would be wise for south milwaukee to cancel all school activites for the safety of the students and their families!

Unless the school kids are helping the elderly to shovel out, they should be in school!

  3. I just came back from droppin goff my husband at work… most sidewalks have 3-5 feet of snow covering them.. so the kids can’t walk to school.. most stop sign corners have over 4 feet built up from cleanup efforts and making it very dangerous to see oncoming traffic.. i think… until the clean up is done.. the schools should remain closed.. it is too dangerous to drive.. and more danderous to walk… I think it is crazy to put the kids lives in danger….

Melanie is right on! The snow has been done since noon yesterday. As Eric mentioned in previous posts the streets are passable. The VAST majority of kids get rides to school. Businesses are now open. People (including parents!) have to go to work. I’m willing to bet that a) the same people whining that school should be closed will be whining in a couple months if someone dares suggest that they make up the classes by extending the year a couple days into summer and b) you will see these kids whose parents think it is “too cold” and “too dangerous” to go to school outside, running up the street, playing in the alleys, going shopping, and the older ones driving around.

  5. I don’t see anyone here whining about the kids going to school… in fact i am the only one.. and i don’t have any kids…. I would love for you to come and drive in my area to see just how bad it is… are you willing to pull out slowly at an intersection.. or a side road because you can’t see if anything is coming because of 5 foot snowbanks from last nights cleaning to see if another car is coming risking the chance of getting struck my an idiot who is driving to fast and can’t stop? It is clear to me that the roads need more clean up… mostly at intersections so people can see others coming without pulling in front of the on coming vehicle to do so….

The snow isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. We are all just going to have to be more careful driving and watching out for others.
