New Senate Minority Leader: Chris Larson

Sen. Chris Larson, who represents South Milwaukee, is the new Senate minority leader.

See the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel story here. From it:

Senate Democrats elected 32-year-old freshman Chris Larson of Milwaukee as minority leader on Tuesday. Larson was first elected to the Senate in 2010 after beating a more conservative Democrat in a primary and since then has been a reliable part of his party’s liberal wing.

With Larson’s relative inexperience, some Republicans signaled Tuesday that they thought he would be ineffective as a leader.

“Obviously, I’m new,” Larson said in a brief interview after the closed-door caucus vote. “But I think I’ve made that up in the work that I’ve done over the last two years speaking up and speaking to the issues that matter to our constituency, the middle class, the people who are blue-collar workers.”

Vos of Rochester, elected speaker as expected, made a plea for bipartisanship. But he also made comments undercutting Larson even before his appointment was announced.

Vos told his GOP colleagues about the selection of Larson even as Senate Democrats were still in closed caucus. Assembly Republicans at first didn’t believe Vos.

“Are you kidding me?” one of them asked.

“Sometimes, God gives you a gift,” Vos responded.

If Larson is the best the Dems have to offer as leader, that says alot.

This decision clearly indicates that the democratic party of Wisconsin still thinks banging, yelling and screaming is how they want to be represented. Scott Walker won twice because we the people find this disrespectful.

Hopefully the new minority leader will remain calm and not hold the state hostage if he doesn’t get his way.

I know I sure don’t appreciate the fact I help pay for Walker’s election via paying his county staff. If you want to talk disrespect…stealing from taxpayers is the ultimate sign of disrespect…(that and lying about them personally).

About Senator Chris Larson. I appreciate everything he did when Walker was trying to hijack our government. Recently…I had contact with Senator Larson regarding a problem with SM. I was hoping he could help me since my alderperson refused to help me…or even answer my questions. He and his staff were very nice and professional…and there was a sense I got from his office that he really does care and wants to help…even if he can’t all of the time. He seems very open to all of his constituents. He has a facebook page where he updates his constituents on what he is doing and what is happening in politics that might concern them. In my book that is a plus. I am for open government and transparency in government. mwalsh9899@yahoo.com
