A few notes from downtown South Milwaukee …
- Studio 915 is holding a special event Friday evening for noted custom furniture builder (and retired South Milwaukee High School choir director) Wolfgang Calnin. Hours are 6 to 8 p.m. Learn more here.
- Powers on 10th is now open at 1815 10th Ave., the former home to the Frozen Rope (and later Kleiner’s). You remember the Frozen Rope, right?
- The South Milwaukee Downtown Market is still accepting applications for its summer season, which starts May 23. Access the application here … and mark your calendars!
Also, PJ’s Variety Store, 921 Milwaukee Ave., is collecting items for Human Concerns.

Any info on the tavern? It seems like Kleiner’s was there for a VERY short time. I thought the reason that he got the license was that he was known with a history of responsible establishments. If one were into conspiracy theories, we could come up with a real good rumor here….
Sorry, but I don’t have any information as to what happened to Kleiner’s. And I’d rather stay away from rumors on the blog …
