As I’ve written about, with the 2014 budget passed by the South Milwaukee City Council and other taxing entities, it is likely your tax bill will go down next year — likely, but not guaranteed.

My bill? It looks like it will be falling from $4,288.25 last year to $4,209.83, or a decrease of 1.8%. I’m proud to support a budget that allows for this.

I
I haven’t been so lucky, in 2012, I paid 7247.00, I called the assesors again to have my home reassessed and taxes for 2013 were 6661 which I still think are extremely high. I still pay almost 1000 more than my neighbor and our homes are very similar in structure. I pay well above all the homes surrounding my neighborhood. I currently have my home up for sale because the taxes are just too overwhelming. This is my second home that I have purchased in South Milwaukee and I like living here but the taxes are way too much. I have gone to the Board and that was a waste of time. I’ve had my house on the market for a year and have not received not even 1 offer all due to the high taxes. When I purchased this home in 2005, the taxes were 4500. Later that year I received a letter that apparently there was an error in the square footage from the previous owners and I have been paying more and more every year.
