For Cleaner Water: Respect Our Waters Homeowner Workshop Comes To South Milwaukee

From the Root-Pike Watershed Initiative Network …

Join us on Saturday, May 3rd from 2:30-4:30 p.m. at the South Milwaukee City Hall, Common Council Chambers, 2424 15th Ave., South Milwaukee.

This workshop will feature a classroom presentation on the causes of polluted storm water runoff and the role of rain gardens, rain barrels, composting and other yard care practices to reduce polluted runoff to our streams, river and Lake Michigan.

Our instructors are experts in the field and teach workshop participants about actions they can take in their yards and neighborhoods to reduce stormwater pollution and protect our streams, rivers and lakes. A rain barrel will be given away at each workshop in a free drawing.

Pre-registration is required here.

I attended this workshop last year and think it’s a really worthwhile and info-packed seminar about rain gardens that both absorb stormwater runoff and replace that tedious lawn mowing effort (ach) as well as demonstrating creative ways of collecting free rainwater to use in our gardens (sans chlorine). I’m itchin’ to take home that rain barrel, that’s for sure! Last year another South Milwaukeean actually scored that rain barrel giveaway, so I hope we can bring that practice home again.

Is there any way we could purchase rain barrels and have a workshop on how to install them? I’m not fond of the industrial blue or white barrels and was wondering if something more attractive is out there? I’m interested!
