Commuting Note: You Can Now Go 50 MPH (Legally) On Lake Parkway

For those who commute to points north and west from South Milwaukee, people like me, this is big news …

You can now travel 50 mph (legally) on the Lake Parkway.

I say “legally” because few actually followed the posted 40 mph speed limit (including me, I must admit).

New signs were posted Tuesday.

It’s about time! What I never could, and still can’t figure out is why do they always say it’s not a freeway but a parkway, yet I can’t ride a moped, bike, walk, or run down the side of it? Why should this “Parkway” be any different than Hwy 36, Hwy 100, etc. where one could do all of them activities? Afterall, that’s what a “parkway” should be for isn’t it?
