First, the kids did a great job. The artwork at the show was really well-done. I can speak about the art teacher at Rawson who is an amazing teacher.
We had to leave before the unveiling. Are rain barrels legal to use in SM? Did it pass that they’re different from cisterns?
Rain barrels are indeed legal in South Milwaukee — with restrictions, too many I’ve argued. In this case, these barrels have the special approval of the city, which is also called for as an option in the ordinance we passed earlier this year. I love this project. Such a lively and colorful way to commit with an important stormwater management tool and helpful gardening device. I’d want to see one of these out in front of a house, frankly… Could be just the start of arts in our neighborhoods. Thanks to the students and staff who are taking charge of maintaining the health of our streams and lake locally!

Unfortunately, no. Those are destined to be placed outside City Hall.
