Yes, there’s new life at the beach this summer, with four new volleyball courts now up and plans for the reopening of the concession stand, rentals and more. Volleyball leagues are forming now. Register here.

Stay tuned for more information — I promise, it’s really good stuff, for both Grant Park and the entire City of South Milwaukee.

What kind of rentals will they have? Things like bikes, or Standup paddleboards?

Any updates? How about partnering with Supervisor Jursik to get Parks to bring beach groomer down to clear garbage and large stones to make the sand playable?

    • Gary: I will inquire with Supervisor Jursik on the groomer. Good idea. As to updates on what’s coming there, I should know more this week.

Better to talk with Park supervisor Matthew Collins (on vacay this week) or his supervisor at Parks to find out about the groomer. I was under the impression that Grant has or is in the process of obtaining one. It could be that there is simply not enough staff to run it(?)

I think they need more trash/recycle bins as well, I just drove through the beach parking lot and the ones near the beach were all overflowing and there was trash on the ground. Either get more containers so people have a better chance of using them, or have the park staff empty them more often, atleast with the nice weather that brings the crowds out.

Parks has received your concern, Cory. Thanks for sharing it. Often it’s a labor shortage that causes this stuff, I think. And, that sometimes impacts how many trash receptacles get put out. I think Parks would somehow like to encourage the “Carry In – Carry Out” concept, but it doesn’t really work in high activity areas like the beach.
