Our new police chief, William Jessup, is more focused than ever on getting officers out of their cars and into the community.
One way we’re doing it: Bringing back the department’s bike patrol.
The department had a patrol as recently as 2010, but the bicycles hung largely unused in the department garage until Chief Jessup contacted South Shore Cyclery in Cudahy this winter and had them tuned up.
They are on the road now, and you’ll see more of them around town and at events in coming months. So far, nine officers have signed up to ride.
The next time you seen officer on a bike, be sure to say hello … and thank them for keeping us safe, one pedal push at a time.
Always would see the bikes in the garage but never realized that they stopped using them. That’s good that they will restart the bike patrols. Congrats
Great to hear!
Will they be in the parks & on the Oak Leaf Trail?
Indeed, that’s the plan, time allowing.
I think its Great News! Thanks for sharing!
Truly a win win. Keeping SM safe and keeping the officers fit!
Fantastic! Great way to be more proactive.
