It’s Election Day … Vote!

Today is Election Day. Please do your duty as a citizen and vote!

There are contested aldermanic races in the First and Second Districts and a contested school board race.

  • In the First District, incumbents Craig Maass and Frank Van Dusen III face challenger Frank Disco Gratke.
  • In the Second District, incumbents R. Patrick Stoner and Ramon Navarro face challengers Michael Johnson and Larry Pagelsdorf for two seats.
  • For school board, incumbent David Maass faces challengers Jon Shelenske and Jeff Dess for two seats.

And here are some voting details …

  • Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • First District voters vote at Divine Mercy School, 695 College Ave.
  • Second District voters vote at Lakeview School, 711 Marion Ave.
  • Third District voters vote at City Hall, 2424 15th Ave.
  • Fourth District voters vote at Rawson Elementary, 1410 Rawson Ave.
  • Not sure what district you live in? Here is a map.
  • Voter ID is not required in this election. But you will be asked to sign the poll book.

In-Person Absentee Voting Underway

Update: Here is a voter guide on the local candidates, including bio information and stances on issues.

You can now cast a vote in the April 7 election.

In-person absentee voting is open, meaning you can vote at South Milwaukee City Hall each business day between now and Thursday, April 2, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. City Hall will be closed on Good Friday, April 3. However, appointments can be made in advance with the city clerk to vote absentee on that day between 3 and 5 p.m. by calling 768-7499.

You don’t need a reason to vote this way — you can simply show up and request a ballot and cast it right there.

Local Candidates Mount Challenges In Spring Election

There will be competition for two South Milwaukee Common Council seats and the School Board this spring.

Paperwork from perspective candidates was due by close of business Tuesday, and here is an early look at your April 7 ballot …

  • South Milwaukee City Council: There will be competition in the First and Second Districts. In the First District, Frank Disco Gratke will challenge incumbent Ald. Craig Maass and Frank Van Dusen III. In the Second District, challengers Michael A. Johnson and Larry Pagelsdorf will challenge incumbents R. Patrick Stoner and Ramon Navarro. There will be no ballot competition for aldermen in the Third (Joe Bukowski and Lisa Pieper) and Fourth (Peggy Clark and David Bartoshevich) Districts.
  • South Milwaukee School Board: There will be three candidates for two seats. Challengers Jeffrey Dess and Jon Shelenske will compete against incumbent David Maass.

Candidates in the city and school elections are seeking three-year terms.
