Market Season Is Almost Here … At A New Temporary Home

The South Milwaukee Downtown Market begins its sixth summer season on Thursday, June 5 … one block away from its traditional home.

You’ve probably noticed construction on 11th Avenue, which is expected to continue through July. Until then, the market will set up in the Salvatore’s/Papa Luigi’s II/Caterpillar parking lot on 12th and Milwaukee. The market will move back to its current home when the work is done.

Hours are the same: 3 to 7 p.m. each week. And the market will still feature the same vendors and weekly live music at its new (two-month) home.

So mark your calendar, and we’ll see you June 5!

Check out the NOW story for more.

(And look forward to the new-look 11th Avenue, too. When it’s done, besides a new road, the project will deliver decorative lighting, enhanced landscaping and other improvements.)

South Performing Arts Center Brings More Concerts To Farmers’ Market

The South Milwaukee Downtown Market is going strong … and if you haven’t had a chance to swing by this year, the next couple of weeks would be a good time to start.

For starters, produce is in (big time), in addition to our well-rounded lineup of other vendors — including plenty of dinner options.

Then there’s our music. We have shows every week, but the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center is bringing a pair of concerts to the market starting this week.

First up, it’s noted guitarist Jim Green on August 8. Then it’s the OPUS Jazz Band on Thursday, August 15. Both shows start at 4 p.m.

Learn more in this press release, and tell your family and friends. And if you haven’t like the market on Facebook yet, please do. Visit our Facebook page at Facebook.com/smdowntownmarket.

See you Thursday!

Making Sweet Music: South Milwaukee Farmers’ Market Concert Announcement

To anyone who has attended the South Milwaukee Downtown Market, you know music is important to us.

We want to deliver an experience that goes beyond shopping — truly an event that people look forward to every week.

That starts with music … and brings me to the news.

The South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center is bringing three concerts to the market, with the first one this Thursday, July 11.

All three acts are truly unique:

  • July 11: Brett Newski. Newski is an indie pop singer, songwriter and guitarist from Saigon, Vietnam, whose most recent album “Tiny Victories” includes songs and tales from that country. He has been touring Vietnam on his Folk Catastrophe Tour, a benefit for disaster relief in the U.S. http://brettnewski.com/
  • August 8: Jim Green. Green is a Guitar Idol champion and was voted one of the “best artists in the Midwest” by Billboard Magazine. His music has been licensed by United Church of Christ and used in documentaries, such as “Innocence Abandoned: Street Kids of Haiti.” www.jimgreenmusic.com
  • August 15: OPUS Jazz Band. An icon of Wisconsin jazz, the band was founded more than 30 years ago and nominated for a 2013 Wisconsin Area Music Industry award for “best jazz group.” OPUS has shared the stage with jazz artists like Dizzy Gillespie, Freddie Hubbard, Pat Metheny, Spyro Gyro, Bill Bruford and many others. http://www.opusjazzband.com/

Of course, these performances are in addition to our regular weekly music.

Learn more in this press release, and see you at the market!
