Farewell, Studio 915 … Welcome To Your New Downtown Home, I Can’t Resist Kids Resale

20131123_145346_resized (1)

Downtown South Milwaukee continues to transition — and this is a good news, bad news story.

The bad news: If you haven’t noticed, Studio 915 left its space at 915 Milwaukee Ave. a couple months ago. The studio is now “mobile,” according to its website, with private lessons, events and more. I wish Joe and Dawn the best of luck and feel bad that they couldn’t make a go of it here.

The good news: I Can’t Resist Kids Resale, already having outgrown its space down the block, has replaced the art gallery. And the store looks terrific, inside and out. If you haven’t stopped by the store yet, please do and welcome Becky to South Milwaukee. With the holidays upon us, you should add this store to your local shopping list.

This is the kind of destination retail I would love to see more of in South Milwaukee — the kind of merchants we’ll need if and when we are going to right the ship in our city center.

We obviously have some work to do.

12 Days Of South Milwaukee Christmas: Studio 915

South Milwaukee’s only art gallery has plenty of Christmas gift options at all price points — and some truly remarkable pieces from a variety of local artists.

Original paintings, sculptures, ceramics, jewelry … Joe and Dawn Mader have something for every taste, making this a must-stop for those wanting to shop local this holiday season.

One suggestion: Consider an art class. The studio offers a variety of workshops throughout the year, including one coming up on Saturday on window painting.

Or how about an art party? Studio 915 hosts all types of special events and receptions, including birthday parties — something I will surely remember when my 5-year-old’s birthday rolls around.

Part of Studio 915’s mission statement is “to discover and reveal the ‘inner artist’ in every person.” Find yours at the gallery this holiday season.

A quick shout out to Studio 915, which is holding a special jewelry sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The sale features handmade jewelry from a number of local sellers, including several that were at the South Milwaukee Christmas Market the last two Saturdays.

Studio 915, at 915 Milwaukee Ave., opened less than two months ago. Check out my previous post here and its website.

Studio 915: Welcome To Downtown South Milwaukee

I had the pleasure of attending on Friday the opening of the newest downtown South Milwaukee business, and I came away impressed.

Impressed because this is unlike any business now in our city center … and maybe unlike any business Milwaukee Avenue has ever seen. Impressed because this business decided to take a chance on opening in our fair city vs. what were surely trendier options. Impressed because its strorefront is simply beautiful, with its hardwood floors, cream brick and huge picture windows. Impressed because its owners seem committed to becoming active in their community.

And impressed, of course, with the unique and beautiful works of art that fill its space.

Yes, welcome to South Milwaukee, Studio 915.

The city’s new art gallery and studio could be a downtown game changer.

Here its mission statement: “Studio 915 is committed to showcasing the talent of new and aspiring Artists.  We also offer a diverse range of  classes and workshops designed  to promote passion and awareness within the art community and beyond.  We are committed to the development and advancement  of the Artists we represent.  Studio 915 promotes growth and wellness through a love and appreciation of the arts.”

It’s a grand mission — one that I’m excited to see come to life in downtown South Milwaukee.

Learn more about Studio 915 at its under-construction website, and be sure to stop by 915 Milwaukee Ave. and see for yourself what I’m talking about. They’ll also be at the Dec. 3 and 10 South Milwaukee Christmas Markets at Caterpillar.
