Nomi: New Life For The Former A&W

NomiNo doubt you have noticed some of the changes happening at the former A&W at 513 N. Chicago Ave.

The rotted canopies over the parking spaces are gone, and there is a fresh coat of paint, but that’s just the start.

The new owners of the building are Marko and Athina Tase, (pictured above). Along with their son, Aldo, they are planning to open a specialty coffee house, also serving specialty bakery and breakfast sandwiches. It will feature Valentine Coffee, an upscale coffee roaster based on Milwaukee’s west side. It will be named Nomi.

They hope to open in the next month, so stay tuned for more details.

And welcome to South Milwaukee, the Tases!

Hi my name is Debbie and I just wanted to say today was the first day Nomi Coffee Cafe’ has opened and want to spread the word how impressed I was! I was immediately greeted with a friendly smile from this young couple!! They took the time to talk to me and tell me about the plans for Noni Coffee and they also let me give some feed back and ideas! This place is gonna have great success!!! I had 1/2 regular & 1/2 decaf coffee mixed together, WONDERFUL ” I also met the owners, super nice!! ( thanks for the scone ) so everyone spread the word and stop by for a coffee or two we need to keep our small businesses going!!! ☕️☕️☕️

I stopped there this am on the way to work. I was not impressed with the quality of the Mocha espresso drink I received. It was lacking in mocha flavor, it almost tasted like powered chocolate. For the amount of money that I paid, I’d rather go to another coffee shop. The employee was nice but neglected to offer me a punch card as she did the other customers in line. The cafe area was decorated nicely and I wish them all the luck but maybe they should be tasting what they are serving.

    • Jaz, we are sorry to hear about your bad experience with our mocha. We have adjusted our recipes since the first month we were open and have many good reviews on them since. We invite you to come in and try one of our new mochas on the house. Also, we had just gotten our punch cards at the time of your visit and had a very limited amount of them. Our employees were only instructed to give them out to those who asked for them as we didn’t have many. We’re sorry you felt left out and assure you we have plenty to offer now. Thank you so much for trying us out and we hope to see you again!

Love the coffee. Although i wish they would price compare with competitors such as starbucks and dunkin. I paid 6 dollars for a blended coffee drink.
