This is the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center’s “10th Anniversary Gala: An Extravaganza of Local Talent.” The show is set for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, May 1, with pre-show festivities starting at 6.
The South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center (SMPAC) will present its 10th Anniversary Gala: An Extravaganza of Local Talent, featuring more than 100 amateur and professional performers and hosted by “Certified Lunatic and Master of the Impossible,” Tomáš Kubínek.
“As the finale event of South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center’s 10th Anniversary Season, the Gala celebrates the variety of culture and talent within our own community by showcasing diverse performances by people of all ages,” says Rachel Sorce, Executive Director of South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center. “There is a rich heritage of cultivating the performing arts among students and residents of South Milwaukee, and we’re proud to feature many alumni for this event.”
Twenty different acts range from opera to unicyclists and belly dancers to comedy. The show will feature more than 100 individual performers from Milwaukee, Madison and Janesville. It also includes performers who were originally from far-away places including Prague and Siberia. Preparation for the event began last fall with two rounds of auditions and collaboration with Kubínek to uncover the unique talents that represent the arts in our community. Kubínek will return to SMPAC for a residency before the show to work with the performers for this highly anticipated event.
The Gala Extravaganza is Friday, May 1, starting with a pre-show social at 6:00 pm featuring live entertainment by the South Milwaukee High School a cappella choirs Delta V and The Pop Rockets, the Kohl’s Color Wheels/Milwaukee Art Museum arts van and food for purchase from Emerald City Catering. The show starts at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $10-$25 and may be purchased by phone at 414- 766-5049, online at southmilwaukeepac.org or at the box office the night of the show while they last.
I’ll see you there!
