Vehicle Equipment Laws: Adopting a State Statute to Make our Streets Safer

From the South Milwaukee Police Department …

Because the Common Council and the SMPD want to make our streets safer for all drivers, we recently adopted Wisconsin State Statute 305 of the Transportation Code. This will allow us, by ordinance, to enforce vehicle equipment requirements such as taillights, headlights and bumpers, as well as restrictions on window tint. Vehicle equipment requirements make all of us safer so please spread the word!

Check out the state standards here.

Thanks to Chief Jessup for driving this small, but significant change.

It’s to bad that the SMPD doesn’t enforce the parking restrictions during the winter. I know we haven’t had that many storms but when people never move their cars … even/odd days and never get tickets, something is wrong. Why do we even have that ordinance?
