From the South Milwaukee Fire Department …
At 12:53PM this afternoon, SMFD received a 9-1-1 call for a report of smoke coming from the attic of a single family residence at 2810 South Chicago. First arriving SMPD units found smoke coming from the eaves and roof vents of the building and notified responding SMFD units who called a working fire, bringing assistance from the Cudahy, St. Francis, Oak Creek, and 128th Airports. At the same time, staffing at the station was reduced by an ongoing ambulance call.
The fire was contained to the attic and was quickly knocked down. Damage is indicative of a possible failure of the electrical system as a cause. Damage also showed that the fire had been burning for quite some time prior to being discovered. No damage estimate is available at this time. No injuries were reported. The owner of the building was home, but the 2nd floor occupant was not.
