Order Issued to Close South Milwaukee Bars and Restaurants; Carryout, Delivery Meals Allowed

This evening, the City of South Milwaukee is joining with other local communities in issuing an order aimed at reducing the spread of COVID-19, including strictly prohibiting dining-in at restaurants and bars, effective at 2:01 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17.

Please see the Health Department order for more information.

Here is my statement …

While we recognize this order is a hardship for small businesses and others, we are doing this out of an abundance of caution and continue to make public health our top priority. Guidance from federal, state and local health professionals and the experience from other communities, states and countries is clear: We need to take these kinds of measures to slow the spread of the illness and protect our community. That has to be our focus.

Will you be suspending tax collection and rolling back water rate increases to help everyone that will be economically impacted?

I’ve been monitoring this virus since late December. Thus, I’ve secured my N95 masks, my hand sanitizer, my durable goods, everything needed for my family’s safety. I didn’t trust the current resident of the white house to manage such a crisis. The village idiot can’t be relied upon to lead.

It could have been avoided, the nation could have been prepared. I’m sheltering in place with everything I need to survive for months. I was prepared.

Wishing all the best to everyone challenged by this crisis. It’s not too late to prepare, just more of a challenge now. Be safe everyone.

Also, under what legal authority does the City have to do this? Could you point me to the legal documents that allow this? Thanks
