Let’s All Be Wichita State Baseball, Lakeshore Chinooks, And Nate Snead Fans

It’s not too often a South Milwaukee pitcher hits 100 mph on the radar gun, but that’s happening now with Nate Snead.

In case you haven’t been following Nate, the 2022 South Milwaukee graduate is a freshman at Wichita State University, and he’s quickly getting noticed for his work on the mound — including an invitation to play for the Northwoods League Lakeshore Chinooks this summer in Mequon.

From the Chinooks last week …

This man throws 🔥🔥🔥!! Welcome back to Lakeshore, South Milwaukee-native Nate Snead! The Wichita State freshman has made 12 appearances out of the bullpen for the Shockers this year, tossing 17.2 innings and striking out 22 batters. And when we say he throws 🔥🔥 we’re not lying. The young right-hander hit 100 mph a few times in Sunday’s win versus Oklahoma State!

More details on Nate here. Go, Nate!

Celebrating Jake Dunham

Jake Dunham’s South Milwaukee High School basketball career is over, and what a career it was. Thankfully, he’s not done playing — and he’ll only be a short drive away if you want to see him on the court in the years ahead.

Dunham was named to the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association All-State Team this week, the latest honor for one of the top players in the history of the school. From Wisconsin Sports Network

Dunham (6-5) was picked as the Player of the Year in the Woodland East Conference. The UW-Parkside recruit averaged 23.2 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists. He had 44 points in a loss to Cudahy and completed his high school career with 1,699 points.

Among his other accomplishments …

  • Four-year varsity starter
  • Career scoring just 15 points shy of Jay Schauer, a 1954 graduate and star on the 1952 WIAA State Championship team
  • Third all-time in school history in rebounds
  • First Team All Woodland Conference in 2021 and 2022 — and Woodland Player on the Year in 2022

Importantly, Jake is also headed to NCAA Division II University of Wisconsin-Parkside, where he joins a really strong program coming off a conference title and NCAA Tournament appearance this year.

I’ll be rooting for you, Jake. You deserve every bit of success you’ve earned.

Thanks, J&J Double Take photography for the photos.

Also, here is that list of top scorers at South Milwaukee (thanks, Ante Udovicic, for the information) …

  • (‘54) Jay Schauer 1,714

Reports: Man Killed After Car Crashes Into Oak Creek In South Milwaukee, Following High-Speed Chase

From TMJ4

A man has died after a 100mph police chase resulted in a crash into the Oak Creek in South Milwaukee.

The Cudahy Police Department initiated a police pursuit around 3 a.m. after a vehicle with an improperly displayed registration was spotted speeding and deviating from its lane. The pursuit went on for about 3.4 miles, with speeds topping out around 100 mph. It was terminated after officers lost sight of the car.

About 40 minutes after the pursuit was terminated, the South Milwaukee Police Department located the vehicle in a ravine near Chicago Ave. and Rawson Ave.

TMJ4 News responded to the area and saw crews working to remove the vehicle.

The driver, a 23-year-old man, was found dead. There were no other occupants in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Cudahy Police later discovered the man had a warrant for his arrest. The crash is now being investigated by the South Milwaukee Police Department.

Police: 9mm Bullet Found On Floor Of Sixth-Grade Classroom At South Milwaukee Middle School

From the South Milwaukee Police Department, by way of the school district …

This afternoon, a 9mm bullet was found on the floor of a sixth-grade classroom. A firearm was not found. Immediately after the bullet was discovered, the middle school administration and the South Milwaukee Police Department resource officers set in action a plan to ensure the safety of the student body.

It was determined that a thorough search of the belongings and persons of the students who had access to that area during the time prior to the bullet’s discovery was necessary. At all times, an officer and a staff member were present during the searches. Approximately 40 students were searched.

Student and staff safety is our primary concern. The presence of a live round is alarming and dangerous. Given the presence of the bullet, it’s the responsibility of the District to ensure no firearms were brought to school.

We will update you at the end of the students’ day as to the results of the search. We also take this time to ask that families talk with their children about not bringing unsafe items to school.

Summer Is Coming: Milwaukee County Traveling Beer Garden Returns To Grant Park Starting June 28

Hours are 5-9 p.m. Monday-Friday and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

From Milwaukee County

Beer gardens are a tradition brought to Wisconsin by German brewers in the 1850s – they’re outdoor areas where beer and food are served, typically at shared tables shaded by trees.

The Traveling Beer Garden tours transform parks into temporary beer gardens for twelve days at a time. Restored fire trucks were converted into mobile beer trucks, serving up craft beers, and more.

One simultaneously running tour will travel to different parks between May and September.

The Traveling Beer Gardens are managed by Milwaukee County Parks in partnership with Sprecher Brewery. Revenue from the beer gardens goes back into improving the parks.

Our beer partner, Sprecher Brewery, offers an ever-changing selection of Sprecher craft beer at each tour stop. Cider, gluten-free options, and non-alcoholic beverages are available as well. While Sprecher remains the featured beverage at the TBG, we will also be offering City Lights, Lakefront & Eagle Park Breweries this summer.
